Water Spider Gown

February 2012

My friend Suzanne Raether wanted a gown based on a character in a novel she wrote, a brown water spider which in North Carolinian Cherokee mythology brought fire to man on its back from an island set aflame by lightning.  She wanted the dress to be a quirky yet elegant, and really have the look of a spider while giving a flattering silhouette. I created several different designs from which we put together a final look.
